Hi! Thank you for visiting my website. My name is Janyce Lyn Welter and this is my 36th year of teaching! I began my teaching career working with seventh and eighth graders in Charlevoix, Michigan. Moving to this area in the late eighties, I then taught sixth and seventh grades at Maltby Middle School here in Brighton. I also taught second and third grades at Lindbom before moving over to the brand new Hilton Elementary School in 1991. It's difficult to believe that I have been teaching third grade for thirty years here at Hilton. I am blessed to have a career that I enjoy so much!
I lived in Trenton, Michigan until I was a Junior in high school. My parents then bought the Best Western in Harbor Springs, Michigan in 1978. My family still owns the motel today. I graduated from Harbor Springs High School. My college days began at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey. After graduating with an Associate's Degree, I then went on to earn my Bachelor's Degree at Central Michigan University. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with my Master's Degree in Reading and then continued on at Eastern for an additional thirty hours.
Both of my younger brothers and Dad still live in Harbor Springs. I am so blessed to have a wonderful twenty eight year old son, Ryan. He attended Miller, Hilton, Maltby and then graduated from Brighton High School in 2011. In high school, he played football, basketball and ran track. Ryan went away to Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio to play football and golf his freshman year. He decided to take a break from football and then attended MSU and Eastern. Ryan has opened his own golf instruction business called Ryan Erxleben's Golf Academy. He really enjoys playing in golf tournaments. He has been involved with coaching football, track, and golf at BHS. He loves cycling and working out at the gym. He raced road and mountain bikes at the Pro level a few years ago. He won a State Championship in Milford! Ryan has also taught skiing and snowboarding during the winter months here in Brighton. He enjoys coming in to my classroom to meet my students every year! I am so grateful to have such a kind, caring, humorous, and athletic son! Can you tell that I am his Mom? Ha! :) I am so excited to announce that I am now a proud Grandma to Stella. She is my new Brittany Spaniel grand-pup. I call Ryan often to see if Stella needs her Grandma to babysit. She spends the night often at Grandma's house. I absolutely adore her! She has brought so much joy to our lives!
Some of my leisure activities include: walking, working out, reading, and spending time with friends. I also enjoy visiting my family in Harbor Springs, MI. I am blessed to live and work in such a great community! I am looking forward to an absolutely amazing year! ~Jan :)
